Julie Lopez, LPC & Job Lopez, LPC

ABOUT US

Julie holds a graduate degree in biological science and enjoyed her first career in that field. Job holds a doctorate degree in the biological sciences and continues to work at his main job as a scientist while also doing counseling work during his off time.

Through some life experiences that led us on our own therapeutic journey we returned to school for a master's degree in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling so we could work together with couples and individuals going through trauma. We currently have a private practice in Conroe, TX and also work as facilitators for Affair Recovery’s EMS weekends. We are grateful for the chance to contribute to the AR mission of helping couples and furthering the research and development of better treatments and counseling practices for those going through infidelity.

WHAT WE WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THERAPY

The therapy relationship is very unique and can be intimidating. We don’t know of another situation where people are so vulnerable and transparent with people that start out as strangers. We want to share a little bit about ourselves here so you can learn about us.

We want you to know that we are deeply passionate about what we do. We became therapists because of the experiences we went through in our own lives and the healing we have experienced through therapeutic treatment. It's an honor and privilege to sit with another human being and be present for their suffering, pain, devastation, anger, confusion, despair… and also their joy, hopefulness, and success.

Our Approach

We started out our careers in the biological sciences. We believe very strongly in using methods of therapy that are validated by research evidence. Our approach to mental health is guided by the most recent advances in neuroscience and  mental health. We also believe the best science is useless in the mental health field without compassionate delivery of treatment. Research shows that the therapeutic relationship is an important factor in the client’s desired outcome.

We know from personal experience that it is very hard to find a trained specialist for infidelity, trauma recovery, and even addiction recovery. The mental health field is different from the medical field in that anyone who graduates and gets a counseling license can call themselves a specialist for any mental health condition. What is more, there are many different certifications and treatment modalities that are not well explained to people who are looking for help. We have chosen to limit our practice to a few areas close to our heart and for which our training gives us unique expertise. We are both Licensed Professional Counselors and have advanced training in working with people going through infidelity, addiction recovery, and treating the effects of trauma.  Some of the modalities we are trained in for treating clients include Attachment Theory, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Natural Lifemanship Equine Assisted Trauma Therapy, Guided Drawing for Trauma Treatment, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Somatic Experiencing.

We see the therapeutic process as a sacred space, where people can be authentic, without criticism or judgment. Where people can receive understanding, compassion & empathy. We believe that in therapy, it is our job to learn your story, understand your perspective and guide you with your best interest in mind. We approach this process with optimism, expertise, professionalism, and hope.

Our goal is to create an environment of healing and growth for each of our clients, and we want to do whatever we can to make their experience as comfortable as possible.  We are so glad you're here, we hope you will find that we make a good fit, and we look forward to hearing from you.
